It is very astonishing news for today, as GISAID announces that more than one million coronavirus sequences uploaded to date.
This news now comes across the world as most of the countries are fighting the pandemic of coronavirus. These all, about 1.2 Million sequences are from 172 countries around the world. This data is critical for those scientists which are working day and night to know about the origin of SARS-CoV-2. Scientists all over the world are facing problems as each day a new corona variant is producing. A huge depository of about 1.2 million sequences of coronavirus means a lot for the world.
GISAID is a non-profit scientific organization working in Singapore. Most of these genomes are from the US and Europe, however, the rest of the countries are not on the back foot. China is also fighting on the front foot.
More than one million sequences can help scientists to probe into the vaccines preparation for the effectees.
Who comes first?
In the list, present on the GISAID platform, genome was added to list as below;
- China, January 2020.
- First African sequences from Nigeria, March 2020.
- Victoria Astralia, 1300 cases with 80 percent sequenced, April 2020.
- UK, 6% sequences, May 2020, and many more from other countries.
Besides GISAID, there are many repositories in the world, however it is by far the most popular. It come into existence during the year 2006.
One of the facts comes from Tanzania, where the Late president always denied the fact of coronavirus. There is no sequences from the Tanzania still. However, in future scientists hope for the complete eradication of this virus through vaccines.
